The First English Evangelical Lutheran Church has served downtown Pittsburgh since its founding in 1837 as the First English-speaking Lutheran church west of the Alleghenies. Its members come from far and near to participate in its Christian witness in the heart of the city: a witness that is faithful to Holy Scripture and to the historic Lutheran Confessions. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is at the center of its life, providing direction, comfort, and hope.
