First English Evangelical Lutheran Church
Volunteer & Employee Requirements for Working with Children

First Lutheran Church follows Pennsylvania state law for volunteers as outlined on the www.keepkidssafe.pa.gov website.  Click here to go to the PA Keep Kids Safe FAQ page for more information.

Volunteers
Sunday Church School teachers* and other volunteers (age 18+) who have direct contact with children must submit the following clearances/information prior to commencement of service:

  • PA Child Abuse History Certification from DHS
  • PA State Police Criminal History Record Check

Visit the PA Clearances page for more information and links to file for the clearances.

Volunteers who have not been residents of PA for the entirety of the previous 10-year period or have not obtained a DHS fingerprint-based FBI Criminal History Background Check, must obtain the FBI background check or a written statement swearing and affirming that they are not disqualified from service pursuant to laws outlined on the www.keepkidssafe.pa.gov website.  To be fingerprinted, visit https://uenroll.identogo.com/ and enter the following code when prompted in the enrollment process: 1KG6ZJ

Clearances must be obtained every 60 months.

NOTE:  If a volunteer is arrested for or convicted of an offense that would constitute grounds for denying participation in a program, activity, or service, or is named as a perpetrator in a founded or indicated report, the volunteer must provide the administrator or their designee with written notice no later than 72 hours after the arrest, conviction or notification.

First Lutheran Church will reimburse volunteers for the cost of obtaining these certifications. Please submit receipts to Suanne O’Dell (sso@flcpittsburgh.org) for reimbursement.

  • Adult Sunday Church School teachers are not required to obtain PA clearances.
