We adore you, O Christ, and we bless you:
Because by your holy cross you have redeemed the world.
Surely he has borne our infirmities and carried our sorrows. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have all turned to our own way, and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all. He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth. He was stricken for the transgression of my people. [Isaiah 53:4 RSV, 6-7a, 8b]
But as for me, I am a worm and no man:
Scorned by all and despised by the people. [Psalm 22:6]
Almighty and everliving God, in your tender love for the human race you sent your Son our Savior Jesus Christ to take upon him our nature, and to suffer death upon the cross, giving us the example of his great humility: Mercifully grant that we may walk in the way of his suffering, and also share in his resurrection; who lives and reigns for ever and ever.
True repentance, Jesus, win me;
Savior, print thy wounds within me.
Brand them on my stubborn heart.
