Jesus meets the women of JerusalemJesus Meets the Women of Jerusalem

We adore you, O Christ, and we bless you:
Because by your holy cross you have redeemed the world.

A great number of the people followed him, and among them were women who were beating their breasts and wailing for him. But Jesus turned to them and said, “Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me, but weep for yourselves and for your children. [Luke 23:27-28]

Those who sowed with tears:
Will reap with songs of joy. [Psalm 126:6]

Almighty and everlasting God, you hate nothing you have made and forgive the sins of all who are penitent: Create and make in us new and contrite hearts, that we, worthily lamenting our sins and acknowledging our wretchedness, may obtain of you, the God of all mercy, perfect remission and forgiveness; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Let me mourn, O Lord, beside thee,
For the sins which crucified thee,
While my life remains in me.
