Originally titled, “Breathings on the Border,” the hymn now known as “Beneath the Cross of Jesus,” first appeared as a poem in 1872, submitted for publication three years after the death of the 39-year-old author, Elizabeth Cecilia Douglas Clephane. This hymn, largely believed to be very personal and autobiographical, will provide the preaching theme for our Wednesday evenings Vespers series throughout Lent.
Midweek Lenten Vespers begins with a soup supper at 6:15 PM, and continues with the vesper liturgy at 7:00 PM. We look forward to seeing you here as we contemplate the meaning of our Lord’s Cross, and sharpen our awareness of our need for a Savior. All are welcome!
